The Great Gatsby- The Return of the Flapper

I didn't think I could have been more excited when I found out that The Great Gatsby was being remade..that was until I discovered that Leonardo DiCaprio would be playing the role of the legendary Jay Gatsby- WOW! It's difficult to imagine any actor holding a candle to Robert Redford (the original 1974 Gatsby) but I must admit, if anybody can pull it off, it's Leo! Cary Mulligan is set to play Daisy Buchanan, and from the looks of these on-set snaps, her wardrobe is going to be the envy of girls everywhere. (Like we're not already jealous that the girl gets play Leonardo Di Caprio's sweetheart!)

Daisy Buchanan, then and now.

As if that wasn't reason enough to be excited, the release of this eagerly anticipated adaptation is already causing quite a stir in the fashion world. Last year, we saw films such as Midnight in Paris and The Artist putting 1920's fashion back on the radar, but 2012 is set to to take the trend to a whole new level. Ladies and gentlemen, the flapper is back..and it's here to stay!

The 1920's was a revolutionary and rebellious era for women's fashion- clothing became less constricting, allowing women to dance the Charleston to their hearts' content. Women's waists were de-emphasised and a slender, boyish, flat -chested frame was considered desirable. Drop waists, silk and chiffon fabrics, handkerchief and scalloped hemlines, intricate beading and embellishment epitomised the style of the "Roaring Twenties", while cloche hats, turbans and headbands, mary janes and an abundance of pearls were the must- have accessories of the era. You can be certain that these same features will carry the current flapper trend right through 2012!
Flapper style was all over the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2012, with designers such as Gucci, Ralph Lauren and Marchesa embracing the trend.
